Don achieves a second doctorate

Dr. Scholastica Omondi, Associate Dean, School of Law, Kisumu Campus, recently made history when she successfully defended her second doctor of philosophy (PhD) thesis. The title of her thesis: Socio Cultural and Economic Determinants of Access to the Criminal Justice System by Victims of Spouse Abuse in Nairobi County, Kenya,” makes a case for spousal abuse to be declared a national concern.

School of Law Establishes Maritime Centre/FishForce Academy

The School of Law has established and operationalized the Maritime Centre/FishForce Academy, an evolving Centre of excellence in the School that is already attracting significant interest among students, staff, external stakeholders and partners. The Centre, which is headed by Prof. Paul Musili Wambua with the assistance of Dr. Akunga Momanyi, has academic faculty drawn from Parklands, Kisumu and Mombasa campuses.

2 honorary degrees, 5709 graduates at the 64th graduation ceremony

The Chancellor, Dr. Vijoo Rattansi has conferred honorary degrees of the University of Nairobi on Prof. Julia Ojiambo, Chair of Council and Prof. Micere Mugo at the 64th Graduation Ceremony. The two have now joined the list of eminent persons who have received the prestigious award bringing the number of honorary degree holders of the University of Nairobi to 35. In addition, a record 5,709 have been conferred degrees and awarded diplomas at the graduation ceremony held on December 11, 2020 at the Great Court, Main Campus.

UoN celebrates 50th anniversary in style

There was pomp and colour as the University of Nairobi celebrated its 50 years of existence since its inception in 1970.

On December 10, 1970, Kenya’s first president, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta led the nation in celebrating the birth of the nation’s first national university at the Great Court and was installed as Chancellor having been awarded the first honorary degree of Doctor of Laws (Honoris Causa). On December 10, 2020, from the same grounds, the Chancellor, Dr. Vijoo Rattansi led the University community and stakeholders in celebrating 50 years of academic excellence.
